KFOR suspended radio talk show host John Baylor on Tuesday for erroneous comments he made recently about the Nebraska Builders Home & Garden Show at the Lancaster Event Center.
Three Eagles Communications executive vice president and general manager Jim Keck said Baylor is suspended for 10 days without pay.
Three Eagles, a Lincoln-based media company, owns and operates KFOR (1240 AM) and three other radio stations in Lincoln.
Baylor hosts “The John Baylor Show” from 3 to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Greg Jackson filled in Tuesday for Baylor. Keck said the station will rotate hosts during Baylor’s absence.
According to Keck, Baylor questioned on the air the accountability of the Nebraska Builders and the Lancaster Event Center regarding attendance and money raised at the Feb. 8-11 home and garden show.
“The problem was the home builders rented the venue,” Keck said. “They were not accountable to anybody.”
The Nebraska Builders and Lancaster Event Center requested Baylor’s termination, Keck said.
“I wasn’t going to do that,” he said.
Baylor apologized for his remarks, and copies of his apology were forwarded to the Nebraska Builders and Lancaster Event Center, Keck said.
Baylor declined comment and referred questions to Three Eagles management.
Baylor is a longtime Lincoln radio personality. He’s hosted his talk show on KFOR for more than two years, and is the play-by-play announcer for Nebraska volleyball.
He also runs a business that prepares high school students for the ACT exam.
