* Nebraska was one of just 15 states where the fertility rate was high enough to sustain the current population; it takes 2.1 births per woman to replace the parents and overcome child deaths.

* Nebraska’s rate of 2.14 births per woman ages 15 to 50 in 2011 tied it with Colorado for having the 11th highest fertility rate.

* Idaho, Alaska, Hawaii, Utah and North Dakota comprised the top five states.

* There were about 25,800 births to Nebraska residents in 2011.
