Nebraskans who were scammed into sending bogus payments using Western Union's wire transfer service could get reimbursed for some of their losses.
The Nebraska Attorney General's Office on Monday announced that state residents who were a victim of a fraud-induced transfer using Western Union between January 1, 2004 and January 19, 2017 are eligible to apply for compensation from a $586 million fund administered by the U.S. Department of Justice's Victim Asset Recovery Program.
The fund is related to a settlement between Western Union and all 50 states plus the District of Columbia that was first announced in January.
Those eligible may receive a claim form in the mail in the next two weeks that will explain how to file a claim. If you do not receive a form but believe you may have an eligible claim, please visit http://www.westernunionremission.com or call (844) 319-2124 for more information on how to file a claim. All completed claims forms must be mailed back to the settlement administrator by Feb. 12.
