Mutual of Omaha will sponsor a networking, project and event space for entrepreneurs, faculty groups and student organizations at Nebraska Innovation Campus, the research park said Wednesday.
The Club, a first-floor space inside Innovation Commons connecting to The Mill Coffee and Bistro from the north, will put the insurance and financial services company in proximity with faculty and student researchers as well as other companies with a presence on the campus.
Mutual will host its first faculty event at The Club in October, according to Innovation Campus, which will give its employees the chance to learn how they can partner with faculty and students, while also giving faculty and students insight into the company and its internship or employment opportunities.
"This new space will allow us to collaborate with talented faculty, students and interns, while also working in partnership with other companies already at NIC," said Brian Poppe, vice president of innovation strategy at Mutual of Omaha.
Dan Duncan, executive director of Nebraska Innovation Campus, said Mutual of Omaha plans to offer some internships for students while also networking with UNL students and faculty.
As a social space with three attached offices, The Club can connect with The Mill for larger gatherings or be closed off for special events.
Some work is still being done in the space ahead of Mutual of Omaha's opening a location there, Duncan added. Three more companies partnering with Mutual of Omaha to form The Club will be announced in the coming weeks.
