Dunkin' Donuts could open its first restaurant in Lincoln as early as next year.
The company on Monday announced it has signed a franchise agreement with QSR Services LLC for nine new restaurants in Omaha and Lincoln.
The first is scheduled to open next year, with all nine developed by 2017.
Bryce Bares, a Chicago attorney and Bellevue native who is one of the partners in QSR Services, said details had yet to be decided.
"We haven't decided where the first store is going to be located," Bares said.
Nor has the company decided how many of the nine restaurants will be in Lincoln.
Bares said the market in Lincoln was "ripe," and he would like to put as many stores here as possible.
Some stores could be farther west as well, he said. QSR Services' franchise territory is south of Interstate 80 from the Omaha area all the way west to Grand Island.
Savoureux Corp., a company headed by former Nebraska football players Kris Brown and Zach Wiegert, announced in January that it had signed an agreement with Dunkin' Donuts to develop 12 stores in Omaha, Sioux City and other cities in Nebraska and Iowa.
Bares said that group's franchise territory was north of I-80.
Dunkin' also has plans for western Nebraska and said it was seeking a franchisee there.
Dunkin', first known for its doughnuts and coffee, now serves a wide variety of breakfast items, including bagels and muffins, breakfast sandwiches and hash browns.
