As part of Directions, the Journal Star invites readers to share honors businesses or employees received in 2017 as best of state, region or nation. Also included is a recap of the major awards presented by business organizations locally.

The Plumbing Heating and Cooling Contractors Auxiliary of Nebraska received first place for the only two Robert Cox Awards presented at the PHCC National Convention. The Auxiliary partners with PHCC of Nebraska to educate and provide opportunities to become part of the plumbing, heating and cooling industry. PHCC is a national organization with more than 220 state and local chapters.

Pink Gorilla Events received a national award for organizing one of the best running races in the nation, the Good Life Halfsy in Lincoln. The BibRave 100 features the nation's top 20 marathons, top 20 half marathons, top 15 10Ks, and the top 15 5Ks, as well as top-10 lists of runner-nominated categories.

Bulu Box was named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing privately-held companies in the U.S. for the first time. Bulu Box ranked No. 1,899, in the top half of honorees nationwide and in the top 10 honorees in Nebraska. The company also was chosen Startup of the Year in the 2017 Silicon Prairie Awards, the sixth Silicon Prairie Award for the team.

Jim Abel of Nebco Inc. received the Burnham Yates Citizenship Award from the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. Other Celebrate Business Award winners included City Councilman and Haymarket developer Jon Camp, Speedway Motors, Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing, Social Assurance, John Henry's Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning, the Lincoln Marathon and Evol Empire Creative.

Ditch Witch UnderCon was honored with membership in the prestigious Crescent Club as one of 10 dealerships who best support the company’s “We’re In This Together” philosophy, by providing customers with extraordinary service to be more productive and confident on the job site.

Bryan Medical Center received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's 2017 Mission: Lifeline® Gold Level Recognition Award. Health care organizations that follow specific AHA quality improvement measures for treating severe heart attack patients receive this award.

Two Bryan Health employees were honored at the Nebraska Safety Council's Workwell Wellness Legacy Awards ceremony. Kathy Helmink, Bryan certified diabetes educator, was given the Wellness Leadership Champion Award, which recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the advancement and promotion of personal health or the health of others. Brian Cross, Bryan wellness specialist, was honored with the Breakthrough Leadership Award, which recognizes a new and/or advancing leader in the field of health and wellness promotion.

Tabitha received the national LeadingAge “Trusted Voice” Award, recognized as the “go-to” senior care resource in America.

Advertising agency KidGlov received best-in-show honors at the American Marketing Association Omaha Pinnacle Awards for its campaign on behalf of the Omaha-based nonprofit Nebraska Families Collaborative, and top awards for its work for MembersOwn Credit Union and Red Development-SouthPointe Pavilions. The agency also received 22 honors at the AMA Lincoln Prism Awards.

American Recycling has been granted R2 certification, the electronics recycling industry's leading global certification with a focus on safe and sustainable electronics recycling. 

Todd Blacksher received the SolidWorks User Group Leader of the Year Award presented at SolidWorks World in Los Angeles. He also received the Michelle Pillars Community Service Award for his role in creating the largest group meeting that was simulcast throughout the U.S.
