Growth Management Corp., the owner of the Amigos/King’s Classic chain, is moving its headquarters to one of its restaurant sites.

Jan Moore, who co-owns the company with her husband, Roger, said the headquarters will move from an office building at 33rd and Pioneers Blvd. to the Amigos/Kings location at 4200 S. 14th St., near 14th and Nebraska 2.

The building has been undergoing renovations, and Moore said  the company hopes to complete the move by June 1.

The company’s 8-10 headquarters employees will occupy the second floor of the building and part of the first. The restaurant will continue to operate with a full dining room and drive-through, Moore said.

She said the company has been considering a move for a while.

Rising food costs and an increase in the minimum wage have squeezed profit margins, Moore said, and the company has been looking to find “the most economic and efficient way to operate what we’ve got.”

That move to operate more efficiently has also included the company closing its drive-through-only restaurant at 33rd and Nebraska 2, right across the street to the east from its current headquarters.

Moore said that location wasn’t losing money, but the company felt its business could be absorbed by the 14th and Nebraska 2 location as well as one at 56th and Old Cheney Road.

Amigos got its start in 1980 with a single restaurant at 5500 O St. It added King’s Classic in 2003 and now has 28 restaurants in 12 Nebraska cities, according to its Web site, www.amigoskings.com.
