Shawn Ryba will assume the role of executive director for the newly formed South of Downtown Community Development Organization, which will focus comprehensive community development efforts in the Near South and Everett neighborhoods.
Ryba has been involved in community development work in Lincoln for 13 years. He served as chief operating officer at NeighborWorks Lincoln, where his visionary leadership helped NWL thrive and grow into a preeminent community development organization. Passionate about improving neighborhoods through leadership development, some of Ryba's accomplishments include launching the Lincoln Policy Network, which unites neighborhood residents, business people, landlords and city representatives interested in identifying problems, formulating solutions, and taking action.
He also worked with residents to organize Problem Property Potlucks that drew attention from city officials and the media to dilapidated and unsafe properties in Lincoln's core neighborhoods. Ryba is considered a national leader in community building. NeighborWorks America recognized this with leadership roles on national steering committees related to his specialty. Ryba holds master's degrees in social work and public administration from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
