Southwest beats Marian for 3rd place
Even though it wasn’t the state championship match, Lincoln Southwest volleyball coach Mary Schropfer was looking forward to another chance to play Omaha Marian.
And the Silver Hawks made the best use of that chance, earning a 25-23, 25-23, 15-25, 25-17 win Saturday in the third-place match of the Class A State Volleyball Tournament at Pershing Center.
“This was our fourth time to play Marian, so we had a lot of incentive going in”, Schropfer said.
Southwest won just two sets in each of the previous three matches against the Crusaders.
Stacie Hansen had 16 kills, three ace blocks and three ace serves for the Silver Hawks.
Southwest finished the season 26-10, the best record in school history. The third-place finish is also the Silver Hawks’ best state tournament finish.
Lisa Greisch led the Crusaders (34-8) with 15 kills, while Lauren Siekmann added 10 kills and 26 set assists.
