A lawsuit against the highest power could be considered by Nebraska’s highest court.

On Thursday, state Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha notified Douglas County District Court that he intends to appeal the court’s decision to strike down his lawsuit against God. The appeal will be filed with the Nebraska Supreme Court.

Last month, a judge threw out the lawsuit because the Almighty wasn’t served a legal notice. Chambers argues that since God is supposedly all-knowing, the Almighty would know about the lawsuit.

Just over a year ago, Chambers sought a permanent injunction against God, saying the Almighty has inspired fear and caused “widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions.”

What about the abundance of life, and the ability to have prosperity hes given us all? Are we going to charge him for that? WHAT A JOKE!!! "

I hate to admit I'm from Nebraska because of the embarrasment he causes by his antics. But he has always been know for his antics. "

" Aren't there more pressing issues to tackle this? Talk about wasting time & money. This is the state of things in the U.S. today, we waste time, money & effort on frivilous lawsuits instead of taking care of the things that should be priorities. "

Ernie is not the brightest guy if he continues this.
If he wins can I sue Bushe's baked beans for giving me gas? "

" Ernie, I'm a big fan and I think you're an invaluable voice in Nebraska, but I've got to agree with the first poster: the appeals courts have actual cases in controversy, where actual relief can be granted, and this case is a waste of their time. Your point (that anyone can sue anyone else about anything) already received national attention at the original filing, and this is just tying up limited government resources for no good reason. "

" What's next? Should he sue the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus? Maybe sue Jack for cutting down the beanstalk? Someone or something has to be REAL for us to sue them/it. "

We Love You Ernie wrote on November 6, 2008 1:27 pm:
" I love Ernie Chambers. I, for one, don't care if my tax dollars go to pay for this case, mostly since I've been wondering how it would play out. I'm also wondering if God will be held responsible for giving humans free will, since a lot of death and destruction is caused by humans anyway. "

Response to christian wrote on November 6, 2008 1:29 pm:
" To commenter "christian" and "a christian" - if you read the Bible, you'll see in the old testament that God does all of the things that Ernie is accusing God of - widespread death, massive destruction, etc. And just because someone (or some higher power) grants life does not mean, by the rule of our law, that they cannot be punished for taking away life. In other words, just because I help create a child doesn't mean I get to take a life somewhere else.

Ernie's purpose is not that he is angry at God - anyone who thinks that is missing the point. Ernie is pointing out what is proving to be a FATAL flaw in our legal system, specifically that anyone can sue anyone else for about anything. This case, while ridiculous, is only possible because of the flaw in the system. "

" How can a ficticious character from a book be sued? Shouldn't he really be suing the religion that follows the character? He might as well add Puff the Magic Dragon to his list because if God exists, so does Puff. That story book character caused me nightmares when I was a kid and this character "God" from that other ficticious book causes nightmares for other people. "

This just shows that Ernie thinks we are all stupid!! I for one think this stupid stunt should automatically push him out the door. "

" For crying out loud people!! This lawsuit was intended to help save nebraskans hundreds of thousands, if not millions of tax dollars by proving that a case could be brought into court on any grounds, for any reason whatsoever. This is an attempt to prove to the state legislature and the govenor that Nebraska needs to have some sort of minimum standards for a case to be brought to court, it is meant to be an example of the most "frivolous" lawsuit representative Chambers could think of. Yes, it is a waste of time for the Supreme Court to hear this case. THATS THE POINT! "

hskred wrote on November 6, 2008 4:31 pm:
" Haven't anyone ever heard of throwing something out for being frivolous. Why do they keep letting this man make a mockery of not only our legal system, but the state of Nebraska for allowing this to continue. Chambers is obviously off his rocker and this just aggravates his situation when the courts let this coninue. Enough is enough. "
