Lincoln Parks and Recreation officials announced today that the Mopac Trail between 33rd and 35th streets will close for about two weeks (weather permitting) beginning Monday, Nov. 3, for reconstruction of an existing retaining wall.

The aging retaining wall is failing and has been deemed hazardous.  The wall will be removed and a new wall built in its place.

The Mopac Trail runs from 33rd and Vine streets to 72nd and O streets.

" Since when does the MoPac stop at 72nd Street?
Per www.gptn.org, the MoPac is "Lincoln’s longest trail traveling through almost the entire city, connecting the University with local businesses, community neighborhoods and the Lincoln countryside. The concrete city portion presently extends from Peter Pan Park (33rd & Y St.) to the Novartis Trailhead near 84th and Hazelwood. The limestone trail continues east 25 miles through Walton, Eagle, Elmwood and ends near Wabash." "

" Thanks for maintaining this trail. It's a nice ride, and it's great that the City of Lincoln is committed to keeping it in good repair. These trails are a real benefit to the community. Thanks, Lincoln. "

" The MoPac Trail turns into the MoPac East Trail at that point and it is that trail that extends to Wabash. Most folks don't make the distinction and just call it the MoPac. "
