Joshua Hauschild of Weeping Water accepted a plea agreement with the Cass County Attorney’s office and entered a no contest plea Monday for his  role in a baseball bat beating of a Plattsmouth man.

Hauschild, 22, faced felony first-degree assault charges in the Sept. 9, 2007, assault of Anthony Premo Sr.

Cass County Attorney Nathan Cox reduced the charges to attempted third-degree assault, a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and six months in jail. Sentencing is set for Nov. 24.

Cox said he made the decision after a jury in August convicted Travis Meisinger, 19, of Weeping Water of third-degree assault instead of felony charges. Also, Hauschild did not have a bat in his hands.

Hauschild, Meisinger and Anthony Houchin, 18, also of Weeping Water, were arrested by authorities in the assault, which occurred on Premo’s front porch after Premo went outside to investigate a disturbance between groups of young people from Plattsmouth and Weeping Water.

Meisinger is scheduled for sentencing on Oct. 14.

Houchin accepted a plea agreement on a reduced charge of third-degree assault and is set for sentencing on Nov. 3.

A lawsuit has been filed in Cass County District Court seeking nearly $500,000 to cover the medical expenses of Premo.
