Police arrested a panhandler on suspicion of terroristic threats after he allegedly confronted a couple downtown Wednesday night.

Marvin Campbell, 51, 1534 E St., allegedly approached two people in the area of 16th and N streets around 11:30 p.m. and asked for money, said Capt. Dennis Duckworth.

When the people told Campbell they didn’t have any money, he allegedly pulled what they thought was a long-bladed knife and waved it around at them, Duckworth said.

Campbell had actually allegedly been swinging a knife sharpening instrument, Duckworth said. No one was hurt.

Police found Campbell a short time later and jailed him on suspicion of terroristic threats, Duckworth said.
