Wal-Mart is hiring approximately 350 associates to work at the new Supercenter slated to open at 84th and Adams in Lincoln this fall.  The retailer has opened a temporary hiring center at 7501 “O” St.

The hiring center began accepting applications this week and will be accepting applications from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; Tuesday and Thursday from

8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m., Wal-Mart said.

Interested applicants can stop by the hiring center or call 402-484-8470 for more information.

According to Store Manager Jolene Bartling, most of the positions will be full-time. “We are excited to add this Wal-Mart Supercenter to Lincoln and bring good jobs with career opportunity to the area,” she said.

" Go figure, the commentors are against WalMart and them bringing new jobs to Lincoln. Don't like it, don't shop there or work there. But for those that do work/shop there go and enjoy it and be happy that you are able to save some money and have a job. Last I checked WalMart doesn't hold employees hostage so if they get treated badly...you can leave. And as always, if you don't agree with WalMart..just don't shop there. I say..Way to go WalMart! Thanks for thinking LIncoln isnt dead and bringing some new life to Lincoln. Has anyone ever done research to what a WalMart can do to property values..that's right folks the surrounding property values go up!! And where there is a WalMart, the surrounding business centers fill up with smaller vendors....be happy its there as it is only a good thing... "

I would like to see a Sam's Southeast of town also. "

" There's a reason why Wal-Mart can have such low prices. They cost American workers wages and jobs because they won't carry a product that's made in America unless the companies they buy from sell to WM at very little profit for themselves. It's all about quantity over quality. So most of the products are either shorting the American worker on the production end or they are made in China. In my opinion, Wal-Mart will, in the long run, not only squeeze out mom and pop shops but American industry will suffer as well. Yet even people that can afford to buy American will shop Wal-Mart because people with money don't care about lost jobs or those without health insurance because Wal-Mart will do whatever it can to keep prices low. "

Straight Thinker wrote on August 6, 2008 8:44 pm:
" Here goes all of the Wal-Mart haters...predictable. If you don't like them, you don't have to shop there...just go elsewhere and pay a lot more for the same stuff, and remember that the staff at the other stores may be a lot worse off, just nobody is pointing that out. Nobody is putting a gun to the head of prospective Wal-Mart employees. You can debate the quality of jobs at ANY employer, national, or local...and Wal-Mart's HR practices will certainly not fall to the bottom of the list, nor certainly not the top, either. There are many worse places somebody can work. As to imported goods, just go to Target, Shopko, etc...you will see the same stuff..maybe different packaging....same products...all made in China or other 3rd world venues. So, get off of your pedestals and come to the reality of Straight Thinking. You are just jealous that the Bentonville juggernaut has been so successful, while other retailers falter. Get a life! My only question is why it has taken so long to finally build the store in this part of town, and when will it open?? And leave the BS for the back of the County Fair next door ;) "

These 350 jobs will be at the bottom of the pay scale, like minimum wages! What career move? A dollar or two increase in a few years? Come on people it's not the quality of jobs they bring but Walmart way which is QUANTITY! "

" A few at Walmart can make a career of it and make above average incomes. The rest, well if you are a student or looking for part time work this can be great. But for the many at each store relying on this to really support a family well good luck. The real question is can they find 350 quality people to work for them? I've been to several dozen Walmarts across the state and Lincoln really seems to struggle to find quality help top to bottom. "

Three, lots and lots of those jobs will be full time...department managers, salaried managers, store managers, full time associates, claims workers, invoicing workers. all full time. nice try though. " Not Good - You have hit the nail on the head. People shop at Wal-Mart to get the lowest prices but they are the first ones to complain about US Companys outsourcing jobs, the first to complain about the illegal immigration situation, the first to complain when they don't get a 10% wage increase every year, and the first to complain about their health benefits at work.

Consumers vote with their dollars and they continue to vote for cheap off-shore labor by buying at Wal-Mart.

Remember when Wal-Mart advertised "Made in America"? That idea was dropped to lower prices. If you shop at Wal-Mart, you are choosing to put a US citizen out of work. "

Please.... wrote on August 7, 2008 7:44 am:
" To all the Wal-Mart bashers, please tell me what store you shop in where you're finding so much high-quality American-made products?? It's harder to "Buy American" wherever you go and whatever you're looking for! It's sad, but it's not solely a Wal-Mart problem. Target, Shopko, Wal-Mart, K-Mart... it's all the same junk. Why not pay less for it at Wal-Mart? If you don't like it, don't shop there. You're free to pay more elsewhere, if that's your choice. "

" the reason you complain is that your just jealous you didnt think of starting a company like that! Get over it! They are bring jobs to Lincoln, if you dont want to work for their wages then dont. Stay on unemployment and watch soap operas. Some people like working for them and have for years. I personally would never work retail and i dont, but im not complaining about a Wal-Mart coming in and giving people jobs, and giving to the comunity.

You complain that companys are leaving and people are getting laid off, now you complain that there are jobs coming to town. You cant have your cake and eat it to. As far as the shopping goes, drive by the parking lots of the other 2 stores, they are always packed. So i guess that means Lincoln likes to shop there. If you dont, go to ShopKo its a free world. The University hasnt taken over where you can shop at in Lincoln...........yet "

J wrote on August 7, 2008 8:06 am:
" I support Wal-Mart not because they have cheap prices. My reason is a little more personal. 4 years ago, my best friend was killed in a motorcycle accident. He had worked for Wal-Mart for about 7 years. I witnessed firsthand how the company was there for his family. They bent over backwards for his widow and two kids. After the funeral, people stopped by dropping off food and goods for the family. The “evil” empire as you say, saw this and brought several deep freezes for the family to keep the food in. They donated to the education fund for the family. They called every day, to see if there was anything they needed. I have worked for the State of Nebraska for 20+ years, and I can honestly say, when I die, my family will be lucky to get a sympathy card.

So for this one simple reason, I will continue to support Wal-Mart 110%. "

" Wow, people from Nebraska are never happy, I'm from KS and have lived here only a year, I have never witnessed such babies! Jobs are jobs, Wal-mart doesn't sell quality stuff, it is a DISCOUNT store, it also employees uneducated people that are just excited to have a job. And if you that that someone w/o a highschool education should make more than mim. wage, you are wrong. ( I agree that the mim. wage in this country is impossible to live off of but that is a different topic.) This, of course is a genralization of the people that work at Wal-mart, not all of the employees are uneducated. But, you get what you pay for, I love Wal-mart and hooray for jobs, don't be such huge babies! Optimisim, NE should try it! "

Neo wrote on August 7, 2008 12:57 pm:
" Kyle - Yes it is a free market and if all you are concerned about is the cheapest price available. Go for it.

My point is that while people are buying the cheapest foreign made goods, they are screaming about the lack of health care coverage, illegal immigrant labor, and all the other issues that continue to make it harder for American companies to compete.

If American companies can get rid of the pension plans, healthcare costs, and pay wages similar to China, you would be able to buy these items just as cheap. But is that what you really want? "

Wal-Mart is a perfect example of what is so great about this country. And if you think they are so bad then don't shop or work there. It is that simple! American manufactuers hurt themselves when they charge an arm and a leg for mediocre products. "

Be grateful wrote on August 7, 2008 4:30 pm:
" Wal-Mart is not perfect, but if you are currently unemployed and fortunate enough to get hired there, BE GRATEFUL! This is your chance to become a productive member of society, to gain some experience, and yes even make some money. It's all good!
Too many people think they are too good to take a low wage job. Again, if you don't have a job, getting a small wage job is better than no wage. Maybe you can work your way up, or at least gain some experience that will allow you to get a job somewhere else. You'll need to actually show up for work on time, and do your job well. But that's the price you have to pay if you want a higher paying job.
Believe it or not, being a whiny, slacker who is late a lot will not skyrocket you to the top.
To get a high paying job you need skills, experience, maybe some education, and good work habits. "

" This is a good job for young people or people with no skills. Nothing more than a stepping stone. To make good money with walmart, you have to work 70 - 80 hours a week as a manager, which is still not very much per hour....

The fact is if you want to better yourself, you can. I did. I know what it is like to work for this company. When I walked from them I never looked back. Within 2 years, i paid more in taxes than they paid me. But it did server a purpose. It gave me medical benefits when I needed them and gave me enough money to barely survive. But, it was great motivation to better myself.

" I worked at Wal-Mart during college. I honestly loved my job. The people were great and seeing a familiar face every once in a while wasn't so bad either. I still continue to shop at Wal-Mart because of the savings. I have shopped at other stores to pick up a few things to make dinner or what not, and it amazes me how much of a dent it puts in my pocket. I don't understand why people need to be so negative constantly. If you don't want to shop there, then don't. Simple as that. And for the people that are still paying off school loans and trying to manage during this tough economy, I'll see you in the check out, saving money. "

" Yep, It would have been much better had Wal-Mart not built this store--Just think of all the contractors and construction people that wouldn't have had jobs, and geez it's only 350 people that will be able to have jobs--it would be much better if they couldn't find any job at all. Then when you think of the additional tax revenue that this terrible store will bring into Lincoln and the state, well I'm sure that the city and state leaders will be too ashamed of themselves to even think of taking this money. Come on people, take the hate for Walmart out of the picture and look at the benefits that have and will come from this. Mom and Pop will be just fine., "
