Inmate talked down from courthouse roof
O’NEILL — A 28-year-old Holt County Jail inmate will receive mental health treatment after threatening to jump from the roof of the county courthouse.
The Holt County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred about 8:45 Thursday morning while Matthew Schaeffer of Stapleton was in the jail recreation area, which is on the roof of the courthouse.
Schaeffer climbed the fence and through wire to escape the rec area, then made his way to the ledge of the roof.
Authorities talked Schaeffer into coming down after an hour-long dialogue.
