A 3 ½ year old Lincoln boy drowned in a backyard pool during a gathering Thursday night.

Kobie Jackson was found floating in the in-ground pool of the home at 2220 N. 53rd St. at 7:26 p.m., said Officer Katie Flood.

People at the home started CPR on Kobie until police arrived, and two officers continued CPR until Lincoln Fire and Rescue arrived, Flood said.

Kobie was taken to Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:21 p.m., Flood said. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday morning.

The investigation is continuing, but at this time it appears to be an accidental death, Flood said.

Kobie did not live at the residence, but was visiting during the gathering, Flood said.

" Do you leave your pool (independent of the size) with water and unattended? As pools become cheaper, stories like this will sadly become more familiar. "

" To Responsible Parent: how dare you have the nerve to cast judgment on this grieving family when you have no idea what their story is. SHAME ON YOU.

Jackson family, we are all thinking of you and praying for you. May Kobie rest in peace with his father. "

" I am so sorry for your loss. We recently purchased a pool for our back yard and have a 5 year old that does not know how to swim. We boat and I have been very leary of all swim activities and haven't even put the swimming pool up. This is an alert for all parents. A child can drown in an inch of water. I know that I will be sure to keep my eyes wide open during all swim activities. A pool is an easy babysitter for kids when friends and family gather. Everyone, please take heed and learn from this terrible lesson. God bless this family. I can't even imagine their tragedy. "

" No shame to the person who posted that stories like this will occur more often as pools become more affordable. It is the NAIVE who believe it will not be so. I am from pool country. Because of this, my children were in the water as young infants. Learning to hold their breath without thought is captured in the first six months of life. It is a matter of life and death for young childrent to learn to swim.

The grief all will live with for the rest of their lives is the tragedy. No one casts judgement. We grieve for this child, his family, all who were present and the pool owners. God Be with You, I hurt for you. "

" My heart aches for the Jackson family, and they will occupy my thoughts and prayers for many weeks to come. May the Lord comfort you during this heart-breaking time, may He give you the strength to make it through.
And to those with critizing comments in situations like these, I pray that you find a sense of understanding for this grieving family.
And Kobie, I too hope you find peace with your father in Heaven. "

" How dare someone judge this poor mother. I'm sure they have been by their child's side 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Little do they know that she just lost her husband a little over 3 years ago and now this horrific tradgedy. Shame on those who cast judgement on others, God willing no accident will ever befall their family or friends. May Kobie rest in peace and may the family make it through this terrible time. Our prayers are with you! "

" Ny thoughts and prayers are with this family. I am sure that no one will ever understand the loss that this family will have. Anyone who wants to talk bad about the situation, try to walk in this mother and wives shoes for one day for all the things that she has been through. She is the strongest persons you will ever meet. It sadness me that people need to talk bad about a horrible situation. Kobie will be with his fatber and having a great time. We love you and are thinking about you. "

" My thoughts and prayers go to both families. This is horrible I am a mother also and would not know what to do if I lost my little boy! Stay strong and keep your head up. Things happen for a reason and your little boy is now an angel.

To the responsible parent....Are you with your child 24/7 most likely not do not judge either of these families they are grieving over a little boy who has just been taken from them. Why do these stories always bring out the worst in others. RIP Kobie. "

common sense compassion wrote on July 25, 2008 11:12 pm:
" There is a time & a place to express your concerns about pool safety. While this may be the place (an op-ed piece) it is certainly not the appropriate time. Leave this family to grieve in peace. They will seceond guess themselves & replay that night in their memories the rest of their lives. They don't need the self-righteous to make them feel worse. Use just a little common sense & have some compassion. God bless Kobie's family & loved ones! "
