Lancaster County District Judge Robert Otte Thursday sentenced a 32-year-old California man to 1 year to 20 months in prison on a drug charge arising from an Interstate 80 traffic stop.

Isaac Trujillo-Bojorquez of Fresno was given credit for 240 days he has already spent in custody.

On Nov. 28, a Nebraska State Patrol trooper stopped the vehicle Trujillo-Bojorquez was driving for following another vehicle too closely on I-80 near the 27th Street exit.

The trooper issued the man a warning ticket, told him he was free to leave, and then asked Trujillo-Bojorquez if the trooper could search the vehicle.

According to court papers, Trujillo-Bojorquez consented to the search. The trooper found about  24 pounds of marijuana in a suitcase in the trunk, according to the papers.

Trujillo-Bojorquez and a passenger, Daniel Villenueva-Lopez, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

In plea deals, both men later entered pleas of no contest to amended charges of attempted possession of a controlled substance.

A Lancaster County District judge sentenced Villenueva-Lopez, 25, to 18 months to 3 years in prison in May.
