License reinstated for People’s physician
By the Lincoln Journal Star
The license of Dr. Maryam Mahmoodian, a physician at the People’s Health Center in Lincoln, was reinstated July 7, according to documents posted on a state Web site.
The Department of Health and Human Services suspended Mahmoodian’s license in May after she fell ill in April.
The May licensure report said Mahmoodian suffered seizures and was hospitalized over four days in April. A treating physician raised concerns about medication non-compliance, which was the basis for the suspension.
Unlike a legal hearing, licensure actions are closed to the public and the proceedings sealed by statute. When administrative action is taken against a license, the findings underlying the case are presented as facts rather than as allegations.
People’s director Steve Bray said in June that based on new information Mahmoodian’s attorney presented to the department, he expected her license would be quickly reinstated.
According to the latest department documents, Mahmoodian accepted voluntary limitations on her practice. The limits state she must take prescribed medications and that she must be evaluated by a therapist.
The documents stress that the voluntary limitations do not constitute a disciplinary action.
