Loaded gun found during vehicle search
Lincoln police say they found a 52-year-old Lafayette, La., man passed out in the driver's seat of a vehicle early Tuesday with a loaded and cocked gun on the floorboard.
Chief Tom Casady said they found Eric S. Wendelin just before 1:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Pioneers Boulevard, just west of Nebraska 2, with a loaded and cocked .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol lying on the front passenger floorboard.
Casady said officers found three other loaded magazines and a box of ammunition in the vehicle.
Casady said Wendelin had been convicted of DUI twice before, making it illegal for him to possess the firearm. He was taken to jail on suspicion of third-offense DUI.
