Warrant issued for ex-Husker’s arrest

An arrest warrant was to be issued for a one-time Nebraska football player who failed to appear in court Thursday on a felony theft charge. His bond also was forfeited.
Police arrested Lynn Finney, 54, on suspicion of passing a check from University of Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne at Old Chicago for $161 in food and cash on Feb. 12. He’d allegedly gotten $60 in food and the rest cash.
Police say Finney told the server at the Old Chicago in the Haymarket he had gotten an endorsed check from the Osbornes in relation to a fundraising event for cancer. But the check was a previously electronically voided check made out to Wal-Mart on Tom and Nancy Osborne’s account.
Finney, believed to be a transient, was on the Husker roster for two years, starting in 1972. In high school, he was a standout defensive player at Pius X High School and was named outstanding defensive player in Nebraska’s Shrine Bowl.
Finney left college to study ballet and became a stage performer for several years.
