Man fires gun in Perkins
Police say a man fired a gunshot in a Lincoln restaurant early Friday as he attempted to rob the place.
A man wearing a dark hoodie pulled over his head and a bandanna covering his face came into Perkins at 48th and O streets at 3:04 a.m. and told the manager to open the cash register, Officer Katie Flood said.
The manager told the man she had to go to the office to get a key, Flood said. When she was in the office, she called police. The suspect realized what the manager was doing and forced her out of the office, Flood said.
The man fired one shot from a black semiautomatic handgun toward the dining area before leaving on foot, Flood said. No one was injured, and the suspect did not get any money. Some of the diners saw what was going on, and police received several calls from people during the incident.
Police believe someone may have been trying to rob another restaurant Thursday morning.
A manager at Pizza Hut, 2662 Cornhusker Highway, stepped outside around 9:30 a.m. to make a deposit, Flood said.
As she was walking toward her car, a man who had been standing by a trash can 15 feet from the door pulled a bandanna over his face and started running toward her, Flood said. The woman screamed and ran, and the man ran across the street, possibly getting into a white vehicle.
Police are investigating, and it was too soon to say whether the incidents were related, Flood said.
