The search for presumed drowning victim Mary Brake was suspended indefinitely Monday, according to the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.

“The mission will not be called off until we can reunite Mary with her family,” Sheriff Joseph D. Hoy said in a press release. But searchers must wait for better conditions, he said.

Prominent Lincoln Realtor Mary Brake, her husband, Gene, and daughter Bayley were riding horseback on a guided trip across Beaver Creek when Mary’s horse stumbled while fording the swollen creek and Brake fell.

The creek was flowing Friday at 44,900 gallons per minute, the Denver Post reported earlier.

“We are at a point now where we have exhausted every option available for whitewater rescue with no results,” said Vail Mountain Rescue Coordinator and Incident Commander Dan Smith.

" This is such a tragedy. I hope her family can be reunited with her even if it is to lay her to rest. It is always better to have some sort of closure. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time. "

" Mary came to our rescue on a Saturday 8 years ago with no hesitation. We arrived in town to move my husband into a furnished apt before starting a new job only to discover it was uninhabitable. We were given her name and # from a coworker and within a few hours she had located another apt and arranged for painting and cleaning to be completed by the next day. Sunday he moved in with a set of sheets and towels and a positive impression of Lincoln and its people. Our prayers are with her family and friends. We hope you can find some comfort in knowing that she touched so many people, including strangers,in a loving, thoughtful way. We have never forgotten. "

" Mary's family, friends, fellow agents, and myself are all better off for knowing her. I hope and pray that somehow, somewhere she will be reunited with all of us who cared for her. She is an amazing strong woman and a great role model, and she will remain in my thoughts and prayers. "

" Mary has always been one of the soft-spoken leaders in our community and she does it with such style and grace. The tragedy that may have taken her is an awful thing for her family who helplessly watched the river carry her away. Hope and Prayer and wonderful tools and if that horse was found, even injured and disoriented, I hope and pray that Mary is in that forest wandering about a bit injured and disoriented. If it was time for God to call her home, I, knowing her and her family reasonably well, hope they can find and remember the times in their lives together with Mary that make them smile and laugh, there has to be so many such times. It is the only way to cope with a such a tragedy and still make some sense of life and move forward as Mary would have wanted her daughter, Husband, and extended family to do. There has always been a place for Mary in Heaven, i just regret that she may get to occupy it sooner than those who care and love her are ready to accept and may never understand. My hopes and prayers for all of the best that can be are for Gene, Bailey and the rest of Mary's family during this difficult time. "

" It was a pleasure to read the many stories of the friends of Mary and learn what a kind sensitive lady she truly was/is. I am truly honored to have met this woman if only through the media. God Bless the family for a hopeful recovery. "

" Gene, our prayers are with you & Bayley at this time. We haven't seen you for some time since moving away from Lincoln, but I, Nancy, have known you & Mary for over 20 years, before you two married. I remember, Gene, your wedding day to Mary, I sang in your wedding, it was beautiful that day & your love for one another was evident. I'm so glad to have learned you have a daughter. My in-laws, friends of yours, have mentioned you all from time to time, & when hearing of this, our hearts ached for you & Bayley. Hope, faith, & love from God will unite Mary to you, if it be his will in this life, or in heaven, she is safe, & will be missed, loved, & remembered by so many people, family, friends, & the lives she touched with her work. God bless you, Michael & Nancy "
