Volleyball notebook, 5/1: Feekin, Straube commit
All-state volleyball players Chelsey Feekin of Papillion-La Vista and Jamie Straube of Johnson County Central, both juniors, have made oral commitments to NCAA Division I colleges.
Feekin, a 6-foot-1 first-team Super-State setter, will sign with Wichita State in November. She helped Papillion-La Vista win the Class A state championship in 2007 with 1,199 assists, 148 kills (.436 hitting efficiency), 122 ace blocks, 32 ace serves and 355 digs.
Straube, a 6-2 Class C-1 all-state middle blocker and third-team Super-Stater, will join Iowa State in the fall of 2009. Straube, who plays for the Lincoln-based Nebraska Volleyball Academy, had 313 kills, 68 ace blocks, 49 ace serves and 143 digs in leading Johnson County Central to a 24-5 record last fall.
Horn takes Millard North volleyball job
Wayne State assistant coach Sara (Westling) Horn has been selected as the new Millard North volleyball coach, replacing Dave Cork, who led the Mustangs to three straight Class A state tournament semifinal appearances.
(Westling) Horn was a Super-State middle blocker at Lincoln Northeast, where she led the Rockets to the 1998 Class A state title. She played collegiately at Pacific and Nebraska, and has been at Wayne State the past three seasons.
