Class A

Comments — Kearney avenged its only loss with a 23-20 overtime victory over Millard South. Millard North made the biggest advance, moving up five spots after edging Lincoln Southwest 51-45 in five overtimes. Bellevue West moves past Creighton Prep after a narrow loss to Millard North in the first round of the playoffs.

Class B

Comments — When Crete won the title in 2000, the unranked Cardinals knocked off the No. 1, 2 and 3 teams before winning the title game. This year, the Cardinals weren’t nearly the surprise, although they did beat No. 1 McCook in the semifinals and No. 2 Elkhorn in the title game. Beatrice gets the third spot by virtue of its regular-season win over Crete.

Class C-1

Comments — Auburn was one of just two undefeated state champions. Hastings St. Cecilia moves to third after beating top-ranked Chase County and then playing runnerup Valentine tough in the semis. Crofton moves in after beating Pierce before falling in a rematch with Norfolk Catholic after beating the Knights in the regular season. Boone Central and Fillmore Central also enter on the strength of solid games against Valentine.

Class C-2

Comments — Howells couldn’t make it seven straight titles after moving to 11-man, but Wakefield coach Justin Smith said the Bobcats were his team’s toughest opponent, so they get the No. 2 spot. Oakland-Craig and Elmwood-Murdock come in on the strength of their narrow losses to Howells and West Point CC got the final spot, losing to Wakefield, Howells and Oakland-Craig this year.

Class D-1

Comments — Overton moves up from fifth and Bancroft-Rosalie up from eighth. Bancroft edge Clarkson in the quarterfinals and then toppled Lourdes, which needed three overtimes to beat Bruning-Davenport.

Class D-2

Comments — After the two finalists, Chambers gets the next spot after losing 12-8 to Stapleton. St. Edward got on a roll in the playoffs, beating then-No. 7 Hampton, previously top-ranked Clay Center and contender Lindsay Holy Family before losing to champion Dodge in the semifinals.

" i dont see how crete, a 5-5 team, with everyone back from last year earns a 6th place ranking to begin the season. i predict crete finishes the season out of the top ten. they end this season playing beatrice, piusX and waverly after playing pud teams like blair, neb city, seward and norris. three losses to end their season and playoff hopes. i predict they will watch the playoffs from the sidlines. i cant believe cozad and mccook are the only schools west of hwy 15 noteworthy of ranking. " Loomis handles Elwood easily, has a 6 turnover game against Arapahoe, plus a blocked punt and you drop them out of the top ten? Just thought I would let you know Loomis will go a lot further in the post season than either of these teams. GO WOLVES!!!!!! "

" Where do you come up with your ranking system Loomis beats Elwood by 16, Arapahoe beats Loomis by 10 and Elwood is 7 and we are 10 doesn't quite add up? Looks like Loomis and Arapahoe should both be ahead of Elwood. "

" great games in class b this week. holdrege vs mccook should close. plattsmouth will have to play a good game and skutt will have to stumble for plattsmouth to have a chance. skutt has too many weapons. crete should win against waverly. crete is smaller but faster. waverly's starting halfback has been out for 2 weeks, if he's back waverly might have a chance.
