Huskers take third in beach volleyball
The Nebraska volleyball team wrapped up its spring exhibition season by placing third at the Collegiate Nationals beach tournament held Sunday in San Diego.
The Huskers earned a total of eight points in the team competition to finish behind team champion Texas and runner-up San Diego. Nebraska’s highest-finishing team was the trio of Brooke Delano, Kayla Banwarth and Jordan Wilberger, which went 4-0 to win the D Flight title.
Nebraska other teams — Jordan Larson and Tara Mueller in Flight A, Lindsey Licht and Rachel Schwartz in Flight B and Kori Cooper and Amanda Gates in Flight C — all reached the semifinals in their respective six-team divisions.
Larson and Mueller were eliminated by Ashley Engle and Kiley Hall of Texas, who went on to defeat Taylor Carico and Jessica Gysin of Southern California 21-9, 21-12 in the championship match.
Last year’s winners were Larson and NU partner Sarah Pavan.
