Mothers are important. None of us would be here without one.

That’s obvious.

But what is not always obvious is how much children love and appreciate their mothers — for everything they do.

In honor of Mother’s Day we went straight to the source — kids — and asked them why they love their moms, what makes their moms the best in the world, and what is the one thing their mom can do better than anyone else.

We took our questions to children at Huntington Elementary School, Williamsburg Child Development Center and Tiny Town Child Development Center.

Their answers say it all — moms are nice. They are understanding. They know the right way of doing things.

“She can understand me when I need her,” wrote Katie Davison, 9. Plus, “she has glasses like me.”

Often, moms are super heroes — just read what 6-year-old Rylehe Wobig had to say about her mom:

“I love my mom because I am afraid of the fog. She can see through fog!!

“My mom is the best mom in the world because she can save baby birds in a storm!!”

And when it comes to being the best at something, Rylehe’s mom can “climb super high.”

“She can climb on our house.”

Of course, we discovered for many moms their claim to fame was cooking, cleaning, shopping and hugging.

But what it all boils down to in the end is this: “I love my mom because I want to.  …She is the best. She is my mommy,” said 4-year-old Barrett Lodge.
