Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office spent several hours Wednesday morning cleaning chicken, vegetables and egg rolls off the road north of Union after a refrigerated truck flipped onto its side, spilling the food it was carrying.

Oscar Cervantes-Preciado, 34, of Kansas City, Mo., was northbound on U.S. 75 around 5:55 a.m. when he swerved to miss a deer, according to the sheriff’s office.

The 2008 Kenworth refrigerator straight truck went onto the shoulder and flipped, spilling meat, vegetables and condiments destined for a Chinese restaurant in Bellevue.

A health department inspector condemned the load of food, and the truck was reloaded and sent back to Kansas City, said Lt. Larry Burke. It took until 9:30 a.m. to clean up the mess, he said.
