Omaha authorities stumble onto fake ID ring
By The Associated Press
OMAHA — Authorities believe they stumbled onto an identity theft ring after a shooting at a downtown Omaha hotel room.
Police say a Douglas County deputy shot Jason Galle, 32, Wednesday after Galle hit the deputy with vase from the hotel room. Galle is expected to survive. The deputy received stitches.
Galle and a woman in the hotel room, Dana McCoy, were arrested. Police say the pair had stolen a purse from an Omaha church, then used information in the purse to book the hotel room.
Deputies also arrested two other men at the Courtyard Marriott.
Investigators say Galle and McCoy had been headed to the men’s room. Police say ID-making equipment and meth was found in their room.
