UNL announces Goldwater Scholarship winners

Three University of Nebraska-Lincoln students have been awarded prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships for the 2008-2009 school year, UNL announced Wednesday.

Aaron Fluitt, Corey Georgesen and Robert Woodward are UNL’s newest Goldwater Scholars. They are among 321 winners selected from a field of 1,035 mathematics, science and engineering students nominated by faculties of universities nationwide.

The one- and two-year scholarships cover the cost of tuition, fees, books and room and board up to $7,500 per year for undergraduate sophomores and juniors.

Fluitt is a UNL sophomore from Lincoln and a graduate of Lincoln East High School. He majors in chemical engineering and will pursue a research career.

Georgesen is a sophomore from Omaha who graduated from Creighton Preparatory School. His majors are math and biochemistry, and he plans to pursue master’s or doctorate degrees.

Woodward is a sophomore from Rochester, Minn., and graduated from Mayo High School. He majors in computer science and engineering and plans to pursue a career in research.
