Nebraska Right to Life has endorsed five Republican Senate and House candidates in the May 13 primary election.

Mike Johanns and Pat Flynn won the pro-life organization’s nod in the U.S. Senate race.

Democratic candidate Tony Raimondo failed to win an endorsement. Raimondo’s chief primary opponent, Scott Kleeb, did not respond to the organization’s questionnaire.

All three Republican congressmen, Jeff Fortenberry, Lee Terry and Adrian Smith, won endorsements.

The Nebraska Right to Life PAC candidate survey included questions about abortion, euthanasia and medical research using embryonic stem cells.

" Gee, all the republicans getting the Right to Life nomination.. most shocking thing I've heard all day! One day people will wake up and realize that the only thing that these guys are "pro-life" about is they want to stop all abortions. Anything that else that would help stop the suffering of living human beings, they generally vote against. I think it's time to get all of them out of office and put people in place who will stand up for ALL citizens. "

You're Being Used wrote on April 17, 2008 8:42 pm:
" For six years, Republicans held a majority in the Senate, the US House of Reps, they held the White House and a majority on the Supreme Court. Yet during that time the Republicans didn't attempt to pass a law or amendment to outlaw abortions in any way or shape (they didn't attempt to pass any laws on any of the other social issues either).

Why? Because they just use the social issue voter so they can get elected and pad their already fat wallets with more cash. Wake up Right to Lifers you're only being used. They get you to vote against your own economic best interests and then do NOTHING about the issues you care about and vote on. Throw the bums out until they actually come through. "

" It's too bad those people can't see the damage the right wingers they support have done the past 7 years. Why would anyone vote for more of that!?! "

Suffering wrote on April 17, 2008 9:13 pm:
" 'stop the suffering of human beings' you say. I like the way you put it. It endorses the pro life perspective. I have to say unborn humans are suffering when they are dismembered and vacuumed out of the womb of their mother. Go to youtube and look up Silent Scream. See if you can watch the whole thing then come back and comment. "

" Is this news? When was the last time the "Right to Life" campaign went left? Seriously? Ever? Isn't this like announcing that PFLAG is supporting democratic candidates? "

" I'm not going to deny abortion is a horrible thing and I would love to see a day in this country when they no longer occur. I don't, however, consider myself pro-life for this simple reason: Most "pro-life" politicians aren't at all consistent. If you are truly pro-life then you would also oppose the death penalty, war, voting against SCHIP, etc..... Just simply being opposed to abortion isn't enough in my book. "

Yeah - that's not the point wrote on April 17, 2008 11:25 pm:
" To Suffering: You don't get it. The point is - if the "pro-lifers" are really concerned about suffering - why do they make abortion the sole issue? Why does the suffering of children across the world not raise their ire like abortion does? If they really were "pro-life" and not just trying to use the issue to get votes they'd have a much different stance on a whole array of issues. "

Adoptee wrote on April 17, 2008 11:29 pm:
" I thank the Lord for a loving mother whose faith guided her to adopt four children and take in numerous foster children, all of whom are successful.

Our adopted family consists of teachers, and public employees that hold positions of trust. I am also thankful that our birth mothers chose adoption instead of abortion.

The GOP squandered a majority and failed to make any significant progress with pro-life. That does not mean that I am going to give a pro-choice candidate my vote just because the GOP delegates that were in office during their majority failed to follow through with meaningful legislation. My vote will go to a different GOP delegate. If they do not perform up to expectations, then I will exercise my right to vote for someone else.

I have yet to see anyone produce accurate factual data that proves that mass abortions has to do with a legitimate threat to a mother's life. "

look at the facts wrote on April 18, 2008 9:37 am:
" to Suffering look into the facts before you assume that something that is put out by one side or the other. the images show in those films are not 12 week old fetuses. I want the right to choose. That is the difference between pro-life and pro-choice. I choose life but I should not have to have someone else make that decision for me. I will not be voting for either of the men. The United States was founded on having the right to choose so lets leave it that way. "

" In case no one has noticed. This is a non-issue with Republicans. They just use it for votes now. They had 6 years to overturn Roe v Wade and 7/9 of the Supreme court were appointed by them....Just more phony politics. "

Long Memory wrote on April 18, 2008 10:52 am:
" You conveniently forgot the organization endorsed Ben Nelson in the last Genral Election along with Kate Witek for State Auditor, both running as Democrats. Other registered Democrats who were candidates for Legislature also received their endorsement.

The GOP at both the national and state level has a pro-life plank in their party platform. It, therefore, shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that the lions-share of candidates receiving their backing are Republicans. I commend the GOP for wanting to protect the unborn. "

Eric wrote on April 18, 2008 11:30 am:
" What a terrible article. Where are all the details? Tony Raimondo didn't get the endorsement? Why not? What was the endorsement criteria? What are the details? Did it come down to a pro-life amendment issue? Funding for abortion? Stem cell research? Banning in-vitro fertilization? the pro-life incumbency issue? Aren't these questions that journalists ask? "

Never understood wrote on April 18, 2008 11:46 am:
" I have never understood people who vote for candidates strictly on this issue. This issue has very little effect on the future of this country. People should be more concerned with economic policies, health care, foreign relations, etc. If you don't want to vote for a Democrat that is fine, but don't vote for a Republican just because he is pro-life. Republicans are a bunch of hipocrits anyway - pro life and pro death penalty. Try and figure that one out!! At least I am consistant, pro choice and pro death penalty. "

No Comment wrote on April 18, 2008 12:35 pm:
" Like most Democrats, I'm horrified by the idea of sucking an unborn infant from a mother's womb. We get it. Democratic candidates understand that you can prevent many abortions through education about sexual activity and birth control - especially to those most at risk. We're doing something about it. Republicans would rather not talk about such things, then blame someone else when abortion numbers rise. "

Rhonda wrote on April 18, 2008 12:52 pm:
" This means nothing to me and really shouldn't to anyone. Just because they don't get the RTL endorsment doesn't mean they aren't prolife or prochoice, all it mean is that the person deciding who to back for the RTL is behind one canidate and not the other. I ama prolife supporter but after working with the Organization and seeing how they operate for over 10 years realize how they come to these endorsments and it has nothing to do with the canidates beleifs. "
