(Records through Tuesday)

CLASS A BOYS

Team (record)  Pvs.

  2. Millard South (5-1) 2

  3. Lincoln Southwest (5-1) 3

  4. Kearney (7-0) 4

  5. Omaha Westside (6-1) 7

  6. Millard North (4-2) 6

  7. Lincoln East (3-2) 5

  8. Creighton Prep (6-0) 8

  9. Columbus (6-1) 9

10. Omaha South (7-1) 10

Contenders: Lincoln Southeast, North Platte, Omaha Burke.

Comments: Not many changes this week, but they could be coming after the Metro Conference Tournament and Kearney Quad. The teams outside of Lincoln and Omaha are always looking for an opportunity to show they belong among the state’s best. Kearney and North Platte both get that chance when they play Lincoln Southwest and Lincoln North Star on Saturday.

Worth noting: Only seven games into the season, Kearney junior Josh Gable has tied the school record for goals in a season. He has 16 goals and six assists.

Games to watch: Saturday — Kearney Quad: Kearney vs. Lincoln Southwest, 10 a.m.; North Platte vs. Lincoln Southwest, 2 p.m. Monday — Metro Conference Tournament final.

CLASS B BOYS  1. Lincoln Pius X (7-0) 2

Team (record)   Pvs.

  2. Omaha Skutt (7-1) 1

  3. South Sioux City (4-1) 3

  4. Lincoln Lutheran (8-0) 6

  5. Schuyler (6-1) 5

  6. Columbus Scotus (4-3) 4

  7. Elkhorn (5-2) 7

  8. Gretna (4-1) 8

  9. Columbus Lakeview (4-3) 10

10. Northwest (4-3) -

Contenders: Hastings, Scottsbluff, Waverly.

Comments: Lincoln Pius X takes the top spot after a 4-1 victory against Omaha Skutt in the Lincoln Pius X Invitational. For the Thunderbolts, Nate Polak and Marcus Schademann are two of the better players around, and others have come together around them. Pius X has outscored its opponents 36-2, and don’t be shocked if the Bolts are unbeaten when they play Lincoln Lutheran and Millard North in the final week of the regular season.

Games to watch: Friday — Lincoln Lutheran at Omaha Skutt. Saturday — Lincoln Lutheran at Schuyler.

CLASS A GIRLS

Team (record)  Pvs.

  1. Millard North (5-0) 1

  2. Millard West (6-1) 2

  3. Omaha Westside (5-1) 3

  4. Omaha Marian (5-0) 4

  5. Lincoln Southeast (4-0) 5

  6. Lincoln Southwest (4-0) 6

  8. Papillion-La Vista South (2-4) 7

  9. Lincoln East (3-2) 10

10. Columbus (4-1) -

Contenders: Lincoln North Star, Millard South, Omaha Burke.

Comments: Millard North is still  the team to beat, and has three-goal wins against the Nos. 2 and 3 teams. Molly Thomas scored three goals in Millard North’s 4-1 victory against Omaha Westside on Monday.

Worth noting: Omaha Marian hasn’t allowed a goal through five games.

Games to watch: Today — Lincoln North Star at Lincoln East,  Columbus at Kearney. Monday — Metro Conference Tournament final.

CLASS B GIRLS

Team (record)   Pvs.

  1. Omaha Skutt (7-1) 1

  2. Elkhorn (6-1) 2

  3. Gretna (5-0) 3

  4. Lincoln Pius X (5-1) 5

  5. Omaha Mercy (4-3) 4

  6. Omaha Gross (3-1) 8

  7. Kearney Catholic (4-1) 10

  8. Blair (6-0) 9

  9. Columbus Scotus (3-5) 6

10. Hastings (3-3) 7

Contender: Gering.

Comments: Lincoln Pius X edged Omaha Skutt 2-1 in the championship game of the Lincoln Pius X Invitational. But they’re the best of the one-loss teams. Gretna can make its claim for a top spot with a game against Elkhorn next week.

Check it out: Pay attention when Omaha Skutt’s Alexa Lind takes a corner kick, as she’s one of the best at the specialty. Coach John Carlson says the SkyHawks have scored several goals off Lind’s corner kicks this season. The Creighton recruit has five goals and six assists this season.

Games to watch: Tuesday — Elkhorn at Gretna, Blair at Omaha Mercy.

" Thank you for at least considering that Kearney's 7-0 record is against teams with a overall 12-40 record, one team with a winning record (a class B team) and is ranked #10 in the NSSA point standings. Yes Marian hasn't given up a goal yet this season and they also haven't played anyone. And unfortunately for them they won't play anyone on their regular schedule outside of the Metro Tournament. This is through no fault of their own. Who ever did the scheduling this year is not Marian fan. "

" What's up with the Pius girls being ranked 4 after being the current number 1 team, and with one loss the first game of the season? "

" Just from an observing point, how does Pius beat Skutt girls and Skut remains number #1 and Pius as #5. Isn't Pius's only loss to Class A #2 Millard West? I'm sure confused "

" No other team will touch Millard North. Soccer is really down this year in Lincoln. With SW, SE being rated that high is a joke. Neither team is that good. SW doesn't play anyone that is good and their district is weak. Doesn't matter if they have D-I scholarship players this year on SW. The three or four they do have would be riding the "pine" if they played on a quality Omaha team. "

Really wrote on April 3, 2008 12:20 pm:
" LSW and LSE do have quality players. As teams they are no as good as Millard North. That would be the only thing that you stated correctly. Millard North is a quality team with quality players as for the facts that you don't know the NSAA has not even assigned districts yet, so you may want to check some facts out before you waste time typing and 4 of the LSW girls play with 4 of the Millard North girls for Club, might add they don't ride the bench they play substantial time. Don't take away anything that any of these girls have accomplished. All are very good soccer players. I am sure LSW and LSE have any control over who they get to play, are you serious, you don't think they want to play good teams!!! Please try to stay informed! "

" Anthony you are correct that LSW does not play anyone until the Millard South Tournament. However I am not sure where you got that their districts are weak when the pairings have not been announced yet??? As for the D1 players riding the bench if they played in Omaha. I disagree with you. Frank has been on the State ODP team for the last 6 years and has been in the top 100 regional ODP players for the last 2 years. Exstrom and Badje are equally as good players and they would not be going to UNL if that was not true. Millard North is a very good team but all good teams can lose on any given day. There are only 6 very good teams in the state that the title could go to. LSW and LSE are in that group. Time will tell. "

" My daughter plays for the Ralston Soccer team we are not the best but try. We were at the Norfolk tournament this weekend. Exstrom and Badge are not equally as good as Frank they are by far better. My daughter was not playing the second half and we got to watch part of their game. KF passed the ball to her opponents constantly. The Nebraske ODP program is a joke, wasting 6 years of money when the first two are developmental. Being in the top 100 ODP regionally means nothing since some of the best players don't even participate and if you take the number of teams in the region by 20, you pretty much get everyone in the region in the top 100. Your not a D1 school until you get assigned to conference and can make a statement. Good luck to all Lincoln and Omaha teams. "

Anthony wrote on April 3, 2008 4:20 pm:
" I'm not familar with Frank so I can't comment on her. However, with Ekstrom and Badge...they are great players against week competition...tell me how they play with their club teams in Omaha and the "impact" they have...yeah I thought so! All the talent is in Omaha...and heck I'm a Lincolnite! "

Calm down wrote on April 3, 2008 6:02 pm:
" Everyone knows that Omaha has the best teams and many of the best players. Look at the population base, Einstein. This doesn't mean Lincoln can't have good teams and players since they play Omaha in club games and High School. It is a disadvantage to play many weak teams in the conference, Omaha has many weak teams also. No one wins in that situation. What really hurts is when a half way good teams like Columbus runs and hides when the weather is a little cold or wet. I did notice you came and played Lincoln High the other night in bad weather. You should be very proud. Columbus bailed 2 out of the 3 years against LSW. Anthony I wonder why you follow girls so close. Creepy. Anyway I don't think you know much but it is your right to Blog. Lincoln Southwest is a very good team this year and it has players who are very dedicated to the sport and they also respect the Omaha players and teams. Good Luck everyone and Anthony you need to find a new hobby. "

" wow i think all of you guys need to get a life!!! you can't even talk bad about some one that actually got to play when your own daughter didn't..maybe frank was just having a bad game? ever thought of that? the girls on lsw have d 1 scholarships for a reason..and that's because they all deserve it??? don't say that they can' keep up with the omaha girls when 4 of them play with girls from millard north, millard west, millard south, scutt, marian..which are pretty much all the top teams and those 4 girls pretty much start every game...all the people talkin crap should mayb care more about there game and not everyone elses
"

Lets play Soccer wrote on April 3, 2008 11:09 pm:
" All you administrators and field managers need to quit worrying about your precious little soccer fields in Lincoln, this is soccer, if it rains let the kids play their games. Everyone is so concerned that the temp is not 73 and sunny. The high school season is short so let them play. Your little turf will grow back. Start using LH along with Secrest. No one will have any games posted from lincoln if they are all cancelled. Omaha plays every night, they get the same weather. Athletic Directors look for reasons to play in stead of every reason to cancel. "

" My poor alma mater Southeast isn't even ranked. I sincerely hope they can recapture the success we had in 2001. I know it's tougher now that there are two extra high schools, but good luck SE. "

" These are high school kids! They are out playing sports and working hard while doing schoolwork and dealing with just being a teenager. Give them a break. I played high school soccer (Varsity, All State), college soccer, and have worked as a coach and a referee. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that these girls and boys are giving it their all out there. I don't think it is necessary in any way shape or form to criticize players by name on a newspaper blog. I know that anyone who responds to this post will say that they need to get a tough skin if they are to play in college and beyond, but the truth is that the criticism they will get in college is constructive and the players are in a far better state of mind to handle it. Random posts from parents of other students are far more hurtful than what they will hear in college. These posts about LSW players are unnecessary and hurtful. If you are a parent, you need to act like one. And if any of the Frank family is reading this, please know that you are supported and tell your daughter not to give these jokers a second thought. "

" I opened the paper this morning to find a pleasant little surprise. Millard North beat Omaha Benson 17-0, Millard West beat their opponent 17-0 and Millard South 13-0. Where are all your comments about that? If you're going to criticize Lincoln Southwest for beating a team 22-0, you're only being hypocritical if you don't think 17-0 is ridiculous too. I'm sure both teams could have beaten their opponent by more than 17 or 22 for that matter, BACK OFF THE SILVERHAWKS!!! Good luck Southwest on the rest of your season! "

" Lincoln SW has 4 girls who play on the best U17 girls Club team in the State and all heavily contribute. KF is actually playing up a year and should be on a U16 team. All these girls are very dedicated to make themselves the best player possible and make the trip to Omaha several times each week to play on their club team. I can tell you for a fact that Badje/Exstrom have played against some of the best players in the Region and Nation in tournament and league play and held their own. Maybe we should be proud of our players locally that have success rather then try to bring them down and criticize them. These girls should ignore all of the negative comments and know how good they are and be proud of their accomplishments, you know that your parents, fellow teammates and coaches all are! "
