OMAHA — The University of Nebraska at Omaha will host a debate between the Democratic candidates for the 2nd Congressional District.

Jim Esch and Richard Carter are running for the seat held by Republican Lee Terry, who’s seeking a sixth term. They’ll meet in the May 13 primary.

The UNO debate will be held at 7 p.m. April 15. Political science professor Carson Holloway will serve as moderator.

Esch is an attorney by training who has spent the past two years working for his family’s real estate company.

The 32-year-old surprised many with a stronger-than-expected showing against Terry in 2006. Esch won 45 percent of the vote.

The 30-year-old Carter is a political newcomer, having experience as a captain in the Air Force Reserve and an economics professor.
