Junior forward Kelsey Griffin was named first-team All-Big 12 Conference for the second straight year, while Husker sophomore guard Vonnie Turner was chosen to the all-defensive team.

The squads were voted on by the league’s coaches, and the first team included 10 players. Nebraska senior forward Danielle Page was among those named honorable-mention.

Griffin, a 6-2 forward from Eagle River, Alaska, ranked among the Big 12’s top 10 players in scoring (16.8 points per game), rebounding (8.2), field goal percentage (52.9) and free throw percentage (75.2) during the 16-game league season. She scored at least 20 points in four of the Huskers’ last nine regular-season games.

Turner led Big 12 players with 2.6 steals per game in league play.

Oklahoma center Courtney Paris swept the Big 12’s Player and Defensive Player of the Year awards. Deb Patterson, who led Kansas State to the regular-season crown, was named Coach of the Year.

The coaches also named their top freshman (Oklahoma’s Danielle Robinson) and newcomer (Texas Tech’s Dominic Seals), along with a sixth man award (Texas A&M’s Morenike Atunrase).

The Big 12 Tournament begins in Kansas City, Mo., on Tuesday. Nebraska (20-10) is the No. 6 seed and opens against 11th-seeded Kansas at 8:30 p.m. The winner of the game plays No. 3 seed Oklahoma State at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The NU-Kansas game will be televised in Lincoln on MyTV (Time Warner Digital Cable Channel 110). All other Nebraska contests in the tournament will be televised by FSN.
