Dave Kennedy, who just left Nebraska’s program less than four weeks ago, has been hired to head the Texas A&M football strength program.

Kennedy held the same role at Nebraska from 2004-07 while Bill Callahan was the Huskers’ head coach.

A week after Bo Pelini replaced Callahan on Dec. 2, Kennedy resigned from that position.

“It has always amazed me while in the NFL, how many players who were coached by Dave in college wanted to go train with him no matter where he was. He is a very well-respected coach,” said Aggies’ football coach Mike Sherman in a statement.

“Over his tenure at Ohio State, I know he turned down numerous NFL jobs. New England head coach Bill Belichick and Scott Pioli (vice president for player personnel for the Patriots) think Dave is the best at what he does, as do I.”

An Omaha native, Kennedy got his start in the NU strength and conditioning program in 1982 as a student assistant under Boyd Epley.

He went on to become head of Ohio State’s strength and conditioning program from 1989-2001.

Former Ohio State coach John Cooper said Kennedy was one of the keys in helping turn the Buckeye football program around.

Pelini has said he has in mind who he wants to replace Kennedy and that the person would likely be in place by the time the Husker team has its first meeting in January.
