Nurse accused of stealing drugs in court
A licensed practical nurse from Waverly was in court this week on drug charges.
Jacqueline “Jacki” Spoor, 49, stands accused of stealing painkillers meant for patients at a Lincoln nursing home.
Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies arrested her Sept. 25, and she was released the same day after posting a $2,500 bond. On Tuesday, Spoor was charged on suspicion of possession of morphine, oxycodone and propoxyphene.
She appeared before Judge James Foster and asked for a court-appointed attorney. Foster asked Deputy County Attorney Lory Pasold if there was any possibility Spoor could get diversion in the case, and she said no.
Spoor was to return to court in two weeks, with information on her finances to determine if she qualifies for an attorney.
Spoor stands accused of stealing prescription drugs while working, through a temporary staffing agency, at Milder Manor in Lincoln, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s office.
The investigation started after she was found awake but responding strangely at home in Waverly the night of Sept. 17, Sheriff Terry Wagner said. Concerned, her family called 911.
He said Spoor was taken to a Lincoln hospital for an accidental drug overdose.
Wagner said deputies, trying to determine what she’d taken, found three vials and syringes of painkillers. He said investigators later learned that she’d taken the drugs from work the day before.
