They’re going: Husker junior running back Marlon Lucky said he hasn’t been hit since he suffered his second mild concussion of the fall camp on Aug. 17.

“But I feel good going in,” he said of Saturday’s opener against Nevada.

On Thursday, NU coach Bill Callahan said Lucky, running back Cody Glenn and right guard Matt Slauson will all play Saturday.

Glenn had a nagging hamstring injury and Slauson a bum shoulder for significant portions of fall camp.

“They’re clear. They’re going. There’s no holds barred,” Callahan said. “Our medical staff, which I have great faith and confidence in, once they clear ’em, they’re ready to go. This is a collision game and I think Marlon’s excited to play in it.”

That Glenn is ready for Saturday is noteworthy considering the junior was not listed on the depth chart, seemingly because of his hamstring injury.

With Glenn’s name absent, freshman backs Quentin Castille and Roy Helu held  the second and third spots on the chart.

Lucky said Wednesday that both the young backs are picking things up quicker than he and Glenn did during their freshman season.

“He’s a good back, real good back, powerful, got real good feet,” Lucky said of Castille.

The Huskers took off most of the pads for Thursday’s practice, which also featured a talk from former Husker offensive lineman and 12-time Pro Bowler Will Shields.

Tunnel walk talk: Various media outlets have been buzzing the last couple days with gossip of a switch in the music that plays when the Huskers make their “Tunnel Walk” entrance onto the field.

The hottest speculation has been that the new music will contain some of the work of a local DJ, Mikey Bo, who had “Husker song” playing on his MySpace page Thursday.

Shot Kleen, director of technology for HuskerVision, did not want to give much away about this year’s Tunnel Walk, but did say that the “Sirius” song by the Alan Parsons Project is still involved in the team’s intro.

That song has been part of Nebraska’s entrance to the field since 1994, when the Tunnel Walk emerged with the addition of the HuskerVision videoboards.

Of the gossip, Kleen said: “Just tell them to show up Saturday and they can see the whole package.”

By the Numbers

The number of kickers still in the picture to handle Nebraska’s place-kicking duties Saturday.

Callahan said Thursday he still has not given a position edge to either freshman Adi Kunalic or redshirt freshman Alex Henery.

“(I’ll) look at all the film and make a decision probably (Friday),” he said.

Scouting report

Dan Titchener, punter

Who says punters aren’t tough?

Husker junior Dan Titchener had a slipped disc in his back that hurt for a week when fall camp began.

Miss any practice? Nope.

His back’s feeling good now and so is Titchener about his punting.

The Cheyenne, Wyo., native’s main area of focus this offseason has been what he calls “the big-field punts.”

Last year, he average 39.3 yards a kick, with a long of 58 against Oklahoma State.

“The main thing I wanted to get better at was just being more consistent,” Titchener said. “I felt like I missed a lot of opportunities to hit a big punt, that I’d hit it a little off and hit a 35-yarder instead of the 45- or 50-yarder I’d like to hit.”

Titchener ranked 24th nationally in net punting last season. He did know how to win the love of fans, though, pinning opponents inside their 20-yard line 26 times.

“That was definitely my strength last year and I think it will be a strength of mine this year,” he said.
