March for Peace treks across Nebraska
In the midst of a nationwide demonstration against the war in Iraq, March for Peace brought its message to Nebraska over the weekend.
The group started its march May 21 in San Francisco and plans to arrive in Washington, D.C, on Sept. 11. Along the way, members have been visiting cities and towns to spread their message of peace.
The march entered southwest Nebraska on Saturday and had reached North Platte by Sunday evening. According to the March for Peace Web site, the group expected to travel east on U.S. Route 30 to reach Kearney by Monday evening.
March for Peace has scheduled a rally to mark the midway point of the journey for July 14 in Omaha. The event in Levi Park will feature speakers, music acts and a poetry slam.
March for Peace, sponsored by peace groups across the U.S., was initiated by a college student from New York.
