Sigma Psi Zeta, an Asian-interest sorority at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is planning a pair of charity and promotional events in the coming weeks.

Saturday, sorority members will host “Choppin’ it in ’07,” a citywide event to benefit Locks of Love. Seven Lincoln hair salons will offer $2 haircuts to those who donate at least 10 inches of hair to Locks of Love, which makes wigs for those who have lost hair to cancer treatments or other illnesses.

The sorority wants to gather enough hair to make 30 children’s wigs.

Hair may be dyed or permed but cannot be bleached. Appointments are recommended. Participating salons are:

n Audacious, 2709 O St., Suite 1, (402) 742-9090

n Designers on the Avenue Inc., 6205 Havelock Ave., (402) 467-1045

n Ovation Salon, 719 N. 48th St., (402) 467-4646

n Iasan & Sebastian Studio Salon, 213 S. 9th St., (402) 477-2060

n Studio 56, 5310 S. 56th St., Suite 5, (402) 423-7272

n Pink Flamingo & Spa, 4005 O St., (402) 489-7465

n Salon Cheveux, 333 N. Cotner Blvd., (402) 325-0710

On March 30, Sigma Psi Zeta will host Asian Wonders on the UNL campus to educate the community about Asian cultures.

The event will feature a comedy performance and appetizers from various Asian countries. Parts of the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society and Voices of Hope.

Doors open at 7 p.m. in the Nebraska Union. Advance tickets are $12 for students and $15 for non-students; or $17 at the door.
