Marlon Lucky, NU running back

Marlon Lucky is known as a flashy back, a speed-burner capable of hitting the home run at any moment. In this game, however, Lucky showed his hard-nosed side. He was a warrior, carrying 25 times for 88 yards and catching six passes for 67 yards despite a sore back. His friends in Dallas, his former hometown, must have loved it.

Stewart Bradley, NU linebacker

Bradley says he’ll miss Nebraska, but that he’d rather now get paid for playing football, thank you. We’ll see. Bradley’s performance Monday was impressive; his sack, forced fumble and recovery gave Nebraska hope in the fourth quarter. Credit the senior for making a big play.

Courtney Taylor, Auburn wide receiver

When the game was on the line, the senior showed why he’s Auburn’s career receptions leader. On the Tigers’ drive for a  field goal, Taylor drew a 15-yard pass-interference call on Cortney Grixby and later had a 21-yard catch. On the next series, after being backed up to the Auburn 1-yard line, he helped bail out his team with two chain-moving, third-down grabs.

Cotton Bowl

This game has dropped more than a few rungs on the bowl status ladder in recent years, but I don’t know how it could have been much better in the “Big D” on Monday. The game was close. The sun was shining. The only thing missing for the 25,000-plus Husker fans in attendance was a W.
