Nebraska today begins a significant recruiting weekend, as the Huskers are expected to play host to 10 prospects.

“That’s a real positive,” Husker coach Bill Callahan said.

Among the 10 prospects are three players who have picked up four-star ratings (on a five-star scale) from both Scout.com and Rivals.com: Linebacker Larry Asante of Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College; linebacker Brandon Hicks of Forrest High School in Jacksonville, Fla.; and offensive guard Jaivorio Burkes of Moon Valley High in Phoenix.

Asante has visited Iowa State and Kansas State and has a visit to Virginia scheduled for mid-December. Hicks is taking his first visit, while Burkes has visited Michigan, Oklahoma and Arizona State and also has a visit to Oregon scheduled for next week.

A 6-foot-4, 310-pound player, Burkes has attracted offers from no fewer than 50 schools. Scout.com ranks him as the nation’s No. 10 player at his position.

The other visitors: multi-position athlete Prince Amukamara of Glendale, Ariz.; defensive linemen Shukree Barfield and Kevin Dixon of Garden City (Kan.) Community College; offensive lineman Jack Cornell Jr. of Quincy, Ill.; tight end Coby Fleener of Joliet, Ill.; wide receiver Eric Hagg of Peoria, Ariz.; and wide receiver Niles Paul of Omaha, who already has orally committed to NU.

“We had more visitors scheduled, but guys are in playoffs still,” Callahan said. “That’s a good sign. You have good players who are still playing.”

-- SERIES NOTES: Nebraska’s 30-3 triumph last season in Boulder, Colo., marked the fourth straight year that the visiting team has prevailed in the series. Although the Huskers won last year, the Buffaloes have captured three of the teams’ last five meetings, including the last two matchups in Lincoln. Nebraska owns a 45-17-2 advantage in the all-time series. This is the 11th straight season the rivals have squared off on the day after Thanksgiving.

-- CLOSE TIES: Nebraska assistant coaches Ted Gilmore and Shawn Watson previously served as assistants at Colorado — Gilmore from 2003-04 and Watson from 1999-2005.

-- BIG NOVEMBER: Nebraska has a 4-1 record in November in the last two seasons, including 2-0 this year. With a triumph today, the Huskers would cap their first perfect November since the 1999 season, also the last time NU qualified for the Big 12 Championship Game. A fifth straight November victory would be NU’s longest streak in November since winning its final game in 1998, all three in 1999 and its first game in November of 2000.

-- INJURY REPORT: Nebraska starting offensive linemen Matt Slauson (ankle) and Greg Austin (knee) were set to be evaluated on the field this morning before a final determination was made on their playing status. Reserve I-back Cody Glenn (foot) also was questionable for the game.
