Nebraska tight end Justin Tomerlin has been dismissed from the football team for violation of team policies and regulations, Husker coach Bill Callahan announced Monday.

A 23-year-old sophomore from San Clemente, Calif., Tomerlin joined the Nebraska program in the summer of 2005, and redshirted last fall. He appeared in three games this season — Louisiana Tech, Nicholls State and Troy — but didn’t record a reception. He made the travel roster for one game, Sept. 16 at Southern California.

Tomerlin last February was arrested for driving under the influence.

The 6-foot-6, 265-pound Tomerlin was among three members of Nebraska’s class of 2005 from Butler County (Kan.) Community College, joining quarterback Zac Taylor and wide receiver Frantz Hardy.

Tomerlin was a four-star recruit in Rivals.com’s five-star ranking system.
