Husker Game Balls: Texas
Top performances in the Nebraska-Texas game.
Bo Ruud, NU linebacker
The Huskers got some strong play from their linebackers Saturday, and Ruud was right in the middle of it. He had eight tackles (seven solos), including two that went for losses. He forced a fumble. He broke up a pass. He had a sack. Retiring Southeast coach Chuck Mizerski had to be proud.

Steve Octavien, NU linebacker
Now we know why No. 15 practiced Wednesday wearing a blackshirt. Octavien returned from a four-game absence cause by a hamstring injury to lead the Blackshirts with 10 tackles (one more than he had previously this season). He also forced a fumble. Should the Huskers get to the Big 12 championship, you know the Longhorns will have a “Beware” tag affixed to the 6-foot, 235-pound junior.

Brandon Jackson, NU running back
Jackson was one of the few consistent performers on offense Saturday, and he did it with some flash. He showed some great moves on his 49-yard dash on the shovel pass, and his 28-yard reception was one of the few signs of offensive life in the first half.
— Brian Rosenthal
Colt McCoy, Texas quarterback
The kid was cool under pressure on the game-winning drive. But he really showed his toughness on a 15-play, 77-yard march earlier in the fourth quarter that also led to a field goal. Both drives were into a cold, north wind. If the weather weren’t enough adversity, McCoy faced a defense that blitzed on seemingly every play in the second half. The young kid took another big step forward in victory.
