Texas’ defense wasn’t hitting on all cylinders in last week’s 63-31 win against Baylor.

Crowder, however, played at a high level, recording three sacks and forcing two fumbles. One of the fumbles was returned for a touchdown by linebacker Robert Killebrew, while the other set up a short TD drive.

Through seven games, Crowder has 35 tackles, including 7½ sacks. He also has broken up a pass and forced three fumbles, one of which he recovered in the end zone against Rice.

“He’s very explosive off the ball,” Nebraska coach Bill Callahan said. “A defensive end has to have great explosiveness and quick-twitch (movements), and that’s what he has. He’s very quick off (the line). When he makes that decision to plant his outside foot and come underneath or come inside — on his second move, when he’s countering (the offensive lineman) — it’s just outstanding. We’ll have our hands full.”

Texas’ other starting defensive end, 6-3, 267-pound Brian Robison, has three sacks this season.

“Their ends are a real strength for that team,” Callahan said. “When we have to throw the football, it’s going to be important to have great protection. It’s a real concern of ours.”
