Cyclone Football Notes, 10/6: ISU linebacker out for year
BY CURT McKEEVER / Lincoln Journal Star
Sophomore outside linebacker Adam Carper sustained injuries to the medial collateral and anterior cruciate ligaments in his left knee during practice Tuesday and will miss the rest of the season. Carper had 39 tackles, fourth-best on the team this season.
“The toughest part of coaching is dealing with injuries of this nature,” Iowa State coach Dan McCarney said. “Adam is dealing with this as well as possible and he will be ready for the start of the 2007 football season. He is one of the finest people in our program. Obviously, he will be missed.”
PLAYING TO THE FINISH: The Cyclones are 3-0 at home this season, and all three games have come down to the last play. Last week, Northern Iowa missed a 51-yard field-goal attempt that allowed the Cyclones to prevail 28-27. ISU also beat UNLV 16-10 after a Rebel pass into the end zone was ruled incomplete, and opened the season with a 45-43 double-OT victory against Toledo.
KEY STAT: Iowa State is 34-11 under McCarney when allowing less than 150 yards rushing in a game. When the opponent has gotten more than that, ISU is just 21-68.
