Jayhawk Football Notes, 9/30: Quarterback plans still a secret
BY CURT McKEEVER / Lincoln Journal Star
On his weekly radio show, KU coach Mark Mangino didn’t divulge who would start under center for the Jayhawks tonight. Redshirt freshman Kerry Meier missed KU’s last game with a sore shoulder and senior Adam Barmann directed the team to a 13-7 win against South Florida.
Mangino has said Meier would need to be at 100 percent in order to make an appearance. He was asked on his show whether Barmann and Meier could rotate.
“That’s not the plan at all,” Mangino said. “That won’t happen.”
2005 REWIND: Everyone knows Kansas beat Nebraska 40-15 in Lawrence last year to end 36 years of frustration against the Huskers. And, of course, it still has meaning to the Jayhawks, but ... “I definitely have good memories about it,” Barmann said, “... not so much (for) anything else than we needed it. We were fighting to get to a bowl game. I don’t think it has any bearing (now). It’s going to be a totally different game.”
If KU wins tonight, it’d have back-to-back victories against NU for the first time since 1967-68.
QUOTABLE: “We’re feeling pretty good (at) 3-1, but you can’t start looking ahead or you’re going to get whacked.” — Barmann, who started against Nebraska the last time Kansas came to Lincoln, in 2004, and lost 14-8.
