Trojan to Watch: Omar Haugabook

Haugabook has made steady improvement through three games in Troy’s spread attack, said first-year offensive coordinator Tony Franklin.
A transfer from Dodge City (Kan.) Community College, Haugabook has completed 67 of 110 passes (60.9 percent) for 572 yards and six touchdowns, with six interceptions.
The six interceptions grab one’s attention. However, Franklin said three of them were “freakish deals.” For instance, one glanced off an offensive lineman, Franklin said.
Haugabook tossed key interceptions during the late stages of losses to Florida State (24-17) and Georgia Tech (35-20). However, it should be noted Haugabook put Troy in position to win both games in the fourth quarter.
“Omar does a great job of leading by example,” Franklin said. “He outworks everybody. And he runs fast — he’s our fastest player. He makes a lot of plays by avoiding the rush with his feet.”
Haugabook’s arrival at Troy was crucial in the Trojans’ transition from a run-first attack to Franklin’s version of the spread offense. Against Nebraska, Haugabook faces his most difficult test to date.
“They’re the toughest defense we’ve faced — and we’ve seen two really good ones,” Franklin said.
