No. 8, Broderick Cole, 5-11, 230 pounds, fullback In a triple-option offense, a good fullback is a must. Nicholls State apparently has one in Cole.

"He's a stud," Nebraska coach Bill Callahan said. "He's a physical guy. Explosive. Fast. Everything is quick-hitting. He's in between the guards quite a bit. He can block, he can lead, he can load, he can do it all. He’s a great player. I really like that guy."

In fact, Callahan said, Cole is the key to the Colonels' offense.

"You have to puncture the fullback and knock him down and force their game to the perimeter," Callahan said.

Cole last season rushed for 717 yards and scored a school single-season-record 13 touchdowns. He's a 2006 preseason second-team All-American.

Cole carried eight times for 37 yards and a touchdown in last week's win against Southern Arkansas.

"Broderick's really built himself up to where he's a load when he comes through," Colonels coach Jay Thomas told the Daily Comet of Thibodaux, La. "Broderick is the heart and soul of our backfield. He is the rock. Everything starts with our fullback."

Said Cole: "I just want to hit the hole as hard as I can every play. You do take a beating, but that's just the nature of the game."
