Jazz in June attracts about 5,000
By SEAN HAGEWOOD / Lincoln Journal Star
Reuben Erickson isn’t afraid to say what he really thinks of Jazz in June. “It’s my favorite thing in the whole world,” the 5-year-old exclaimed after swallowing a bite of his ham and turkey sandwich.
Reuben, his 2-year-old sister, Eva, and his parents, Paul and Lana, of Lincoln, were among a crowd of about 5,000 music enthusiasts that filled the Sheldon Sculpture Garden on Tuesday evening to attend the first concert of the annual series.
The show featured the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra with guest artist Paul Glasse on mandolin.

The Ericksons sat in the shade on the north side of the Westbrook Music Building, enjoying a dinner of sandwiches, potato chips, grapes, avocados, Coke and fruit juice.
Lana said she and her family have been going to Jazz in June every year since 1996.
“It’s exciting because it marks the beginning of summer,” she said.
It also gives people a chance to socialize while listening to some great music, she said.
“It’s a lot of fun, especially talking to people that we haven’t seen since last summer,” she said. “And the music is awesome.”
Jazz in June runs every Tuesday this month with a market at 5 p.m. and live music at 7 p.m.
Saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi and The Jazz Factory will take the stage next Tuesday.
