Although first-year Nebraska head coach Bill Callahan is intent on building a strong future for his program, he recognizes the importance of today's game for the 22 Husker seniors.

"Our seniors have undergone quite a bit in terms of coaching changes and wins and losses," Callahan said. "It's been a roller-coaster ride for these guys, so it's important they leave on a good note.

"A lot of them have given their heart and soul."

Callahan gave a nod to Nebraska's entire senior class, not just the main contributors.

"Not only the Barrett Ruuds, but you take a look at the Danny Burrows and guys like Ben Zajicek and Kiffin Wigert, those guys who are really unheralded in terms of all they've given to the program.

"You look at them as a group, and you can see they've really gone through quite a bit, and I'd love to see them go out with a win."

FLORIDA DREAMING: Yes, Nebraska needs a win today to become bowl-eligible. That doesn't mean a Husker can't dream a little. Husker cornerback Fabian Washington was asked which bowl he would prefer. "Where do you think I'd want to go?" asked the native of Bradenton, Fla. He apparently favors the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando, a 90-minute drive from Bradenton. Linebacker Chad Sievers also favors the Champs Sports Bowl. "We're probably not supposed to say that — Coach Callahan probably wouldn't like that too much — but heck, I wouldn't mind going to Orlando at this point," Sievers said.

BOWL BENEFITS: Callahan likes the thought of reaching a bowl game in part because of the extra practice time that comes with it. "I think it's huge," he said. "I think any time you can gain an extra two or three weeks of practice, your younger players get an opportunity to improve and to get more repetitions, and you can improve the bottom of your roster. That's a real key factor."

INJURY REPORT: Two Nebraska players — defensive lineman Brandon Teamer (knee) and wideout Isaiah Fluellen (foot) — are doubtful for today's game, Callahan said. Husker backup I-back Brandon Jackson has been slowed by a knee injury but is expected to play.

ETC.: Nebraska has beaten Colorado in the five of the teams' last six meetings in Lincoln. Quarterback Robert Hodge guided CU to a 28-12 triumph in Lincoln in 2002. ... The Huskers today will retire the uniform No. 64 of college and professional hall-of-famer Bob Brown, who starred at NU from 1961-63.
