OU Notes, 11/13
You'd never know OU is a 29-point favorite
Who knows if Bob Stoops been affected by his team having to battle through the fourth quarter each of the last two weeks. But hearing him talk about Nebraska, the Sooners' opponent today, one might think the Huskers are on the verge of greatness rather than being perilously close to missing a bowl game for the first time in 36 years.
"As you watch them, Cory Ross is a guy that can really hurt you; (he) has got a good average per carry," Stoops said. "So, like always, we want to be great against the run game. And then once they throw the football, and they do, they throw it more than any other Nebraska team. We've got to try and confuse and get to the quarterback, rattle him some and be strong in our coverage. We've got to improve some of our coverage that we've had. I believe we can, and that's going to be an important part of the game."
Despite giving up big passing yardage totals in its last two games, the Sooners are listed as 29½-point favorites on the Las Vegas betting line. For the season, they're 3-6 against the spread.
GOOD SPORTS: OU defensive tackle Lynn McGruder and flanker Mark Clayton shared the most recent Big 12 Sportsman of the Year award. The two were cited for assisting victims in a serious automobile accident near Norman in June of 2003. While returning to campus for summer conditioning, they nearly missed being involved in a three-car accident on Interstate 35 that killed one driver. But rather than freezing up in the moment, they helped pull five occupants from another vehicle that had caught fire and helped them to safety.
CLOCK WATCHING: The Sooners have had 11 scoring drives that took less than two minutes and seven that worked more than five minutes off the clock.
